From July 18 to August 13, 2011, 25 students from the School of Statistics, CUFE went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, and participated in ICPSR (the Inter-University Consortium, for Political and Social Research) summer program. The ICPSR project began in 1962, has been nearly 50 years of history. The project aims at creating a comprehensive and co-ordinated training framework in quantitative statistical methods and their application in the social sciences.

25 students from the School of Statistics, School of Economics, School of Accountancy, School of Business, and 9 College undergraduate and graduate students participated in this project. ICPSR project provides a variety of optional courses for students of different professional backgrounds and knowledge structures, thus creating flexibility for students to make most suitable course choice in their course management.

Participation in this project exposes students to various opportunities. Changing classroom ecology, through such exchange program, can improve student behavior, as students have more direct and in-depth exchange opportunity with many well-known professors at the Universities in the United States. This project not only allows students to gain direct knowledge and experience, but also help them to make use of the most simple ideas, and improve basic academic attitude! Apart from academic tour, students also participate in other activities such as field dinners, parties, receptions etc. This further provide more opportunities for exchange students as they interact with students and scholars from around the world.

The whole program has been highly evaluated by the students as one of the best incentive program. The School of Statistics, CUFE, would continue to strengthen cooperation with the University of Michigan, constantly evaluating key lessons learnt and experience and ensuring the accomplishment of this project in the long run
